A Zn based metal organic framework as a heterogeneous catalyst for C–C bond formation reactions

Abstract: A Zn-Bp-BTC MOF was synthesized and characterized. The Zn-Bp-BTC MOF was successfully employed as a catalyst for Knoevenagel condensation, a multicomponent reaction and in benzimidazole synthesis.

“…Symmetric and asymmetric vibrations of C-O groups appear in the range of 1360-1570 cm −1 , exhibiting reasonable red shifts toward the free carbonyl groups (1420-1670 cm −1 ), owing to the coordination of BDC-OH to cadmium centers via carbonyl moieties. [40,41] The observed weak peak at 1635 cm −1 can be attributed to the DMF molecules in the as-synthesized structure. [42]…”

“…From the above discussion, it can be elucidated that the configuration of acid-base sites by ion exchange in zeolite-based catalysts can effectively optimize the aldol condensation of alcohols, and their shape-selective feature could be promising for improving selectivity of target products likewise. Similar to zeolites, as another porous material with uniform channel structure, metal organic frameworks have also been exploited as catalysts of C-C bond formation in recent years [81][82][83][84][85]. However, the thermostability is still an inevitable issue and needs to be further addressed.…”

“…Recently, we reported a Zn based MOF [17] as a heterogeneous catalyst for CÀ C bond formation reactions. Inspired by these reports and our interest in search of a less expensive catalytic system for coupling reactions [18] prompted us to explore the possibility of using less expensive zinc salts in the N-alkylation reaction.…”
