Abstract:Background
Increasing scientific evidence implicates a pathogenic role of Th17 cells and associated cytokines in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Vitamin D may have suppressive effect on Th17 cells. In vitro studies show that vitamin D suppresses IL-17 production in stimulated PMBCs1 in patients with early RA. In a recent study2, serum 25(OH)D levels were inversely associated with IL-17 levels in RA patients. However, the effect of vitamin D repletion on IL-17 levels in RA remains untested. This is of clinical impor… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
