Abstract: Nitrous oxide (N2O) is the main stratospheric ozone depleting agent, and the strongest greenhouse gas in the atmosphere. Classically, microbially-mediated processes, such as ammonia oxidation and denitrification are assumed to control the N2O budget in aquatic systems.
