In this paper, a novel water-based reconfigurable frequency selective rasorber (FSR) at microwave band is proposed, which has a thermally tunable absorption band above the transmission band. The water-based FSR consists of a bandpass type frequency selective surface (FSS) and a 3D printing container. The water substrate is filled into the sealed space constructed by the above two structures. The numerical simulation results show that the FSR can achieve absorption with high absorptivity from 8.3 to 15.2 GHz, and obtain a transmission band of 5.2 to 7.0 GHz. The minimum insertion loss of the transmission band reaches 0.72 dB at 6.14 GHz. In addition, the FSR has the reconfigurable characteristics of absorbing or reflecting electromagnetic waves by filling with water or not. The proposed water-based FSR shows its good transmission/absorption performance under different polarizations and oblique incident angles. Due to the Debye model of water, the absorption band can be adjusted by water temperature, while the passband remains stable. At last, prototype of the FSR based on water has been fabricated, and the experimental results are presented to demonstrate the validity of the proposed structure.

This paper introduces an angular-insensitive dual-polarized 3-D absorptive frequency-selective transmission structure (AFST), which has a transmission window and an upper absorption band. The transmission band is produced by lossless resonators implemented using an aperture antenna embedded notched parallel plate waveguide with a metalized via hole in the center. The absorption band is obtained by lossy resonators constructed by the single resistor embedded bent metallic strips. In addition, the whole structure is constructed without backing discontinuous metallic ground plane, which overcomes the fabrication difficulty of conventional 3-D structures. Physical mechanism of the proposed AFST is explained with the aid of an equivalent circuit model, as well as current and electric field distributions. A prototype of the designed AFST is fabricated and measured, and experimental results show that a fractional transmission bandwidth of 20.5% and an upper absorption bandwidth of 28.8% with absorptivity around 90% for both TE-and TM-polarizations are achieved under oblique incident wave up to 50 •. A low-frequency transmissive frequency selective rasorber (FSR) with high in-band transmission and wideband absorption characteristics is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. It comprises the top resistive sheet and the bottom bandpass FSS. For resistive sheet, the tiny strip-type parallel LC resonator composed of square spiral inductor and its two-sided capacitors is inserted between the resistor-loaded crosses to achieve lower insertion loss (IL) by cutting off the lossy path. The bandpass FSS with high selectivity consists of Jerusalem cross slot array and capacitive metallic patches. An IL of 0.3 dB is obtained at 3.55 GHz, and the 10-dB-absorption band is 5.4-13.2 GHz.
