Abstract:Fibrillar collagen, exposed by damage of vascular endothelium, is the most thrombogenic component of the subendothelium, which, in addition to supporting platelet adhesion, is also a potent platelet activator. Platelet glycoprotein VI (GPVI) plays a major role in collagen-induced platelet activation, leading to thrombus formation. Inhibition of GPVI function may be a novel anti-platelet therapy with minimal bleeding risk. Recent evidence in FcRγ-chain-knockout (KO) mice, which also lack GPVI, shows attenuated … Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
