Abstract: The maintenance of correct chromosome number (euploidy) during cell division is ensured by a highly conserved surveillance mechanism termed ‘spindle assembly checkpoint’ which safeguards correct chromosome segregation by delaying anaphase onset until all chromosomes are properly bi-oriented on the spindle apparatus.
