Abstract:Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) results from intermittent and severe activation of the mucosal immune system in the gastrointestinal tract to promote a chronic state of inflammation. Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) are the two major forms of IBD.
