Despite improvements in therapeutics, ischemic heart disease remains a leading cause of death. Cardiac remodeling after myocardial infarction (MI), predominantly due to loss of cardiomyocytes and coronary vasculature, leads to a progressive decline in cardiac function resulting in heart failure.
