Access to Highly Efficient Energy Transfer in Metal–Organic Frameworks via Mixed Linkers Approach

Abstract: Herein, we report a new light-harvesting mixed-ligand Zr(IV)-based metal–organic framework (MOF),with underlying fcu topology, encompassing the [Zr6(μ3-O)4(μ3-OH)4(O2C−)12] cluster and an equimolar mixture of thiadiazole- and benzimidazole-functionalized ligands. The successful integration of ligands with similar structural features but with notable chemical distinction afforded the attainment of a highly efficient energy transfer (ET). Notably, the very strong spectral overlap between the emission spectrum o… Show more

“…Recently, Eddaoudi and co-workers prepared a light-harvesting Zr-based heteroligand MOF with thiadiazole-and benzimidazole-functionalized ligands. [53] The strong spectral overlap between the emission peaks of benzimidazole and the absorption peaks of thiadiazole led to rapid and highly efficient energy transfer (around 90% efficiency). 3) Create structural defects.…”

“…Interaction between the protonated methylamine and the framework was confirmed by DFT calculations. The same ligand H2btdb in combination with 4,4'-(1H-benzo[d]imidazole-4,7-diyl)dibenzoic acid was used for the preparation of mixed-ligand Zr-fcu-MOF in which energy transfer between the linkers was observed [117]. A strong overlap between the emission band of benzimidazole ligand and the absorption band of H2btdb ensured a superior efficiency of energy transfer of 90%, making it a promising light-harvesting platform.…”

“…[16][17][18][19][20][21] Model II uses mixed-linker strategy to incorporate two linkers into asingle crystal structure with disordered distribution. [22][23][24] While many interesting and important studies have been done based on these two models, most of these studies are limited to two linkers with restrictions on their absorption and emission properties,w ith very limited capability to tune the ET in the whole visible light range and to control its direction.…”
