Accessible and Informative Sectioned Images and Surface Models of a Cadaver Head

Abstract: The sectioned images and surface models of a cadaver head in the Visible Korean Project would be more beneficial if they were accessible and informative. To this aim, 3 policies were established: (1) the data are promptly obtainable and observable; (2) the graphic data are accompanied by explaining the anatomic terms; and (3) two-dimensional images and three-dimensional models are shown together. According to the policies, the following were attempted. Two hundred thirty-five couples of sectioned images and ou… Show more

“…Available images include those of the Visible Human Project (VHP; male and female) conducted in the United States (Ackerman;Spitzer et al, 1996; the Chinese Visible Human (CVH; male and female) (Zhang et al, 2006) and the Virtual Chinese Human (VCH; male and female) (Tang et al, 2010;Yuan et al, 2008); and the Visible Korean (VK; male whole body, male head, and female pelvis) (Park et al, 2005aShin et al, 2013) (Table I). Male sectioned images of the VHP, CVH, and VK were used in many ways; for example, for creating atlases (Cho, 2009;, browsing software Shin et al, 2011Shin et al, , 2012a, and virtual dissection software (Schiemann et al, 2000;Spitzer & Scherzinger, 2006), and provided the facility of free access to three dimensional (3D) models in PDF files atlases (Shin et al, 2012b;Park et al, 2013). Furthermore, the sectioned images of VK were used that the dose conversion coefficients of radiology were calculated virtually (Kim et al, 2008).…”

“…By manipulating the mouse, the surface models could be freely rotated; they could also be zoomed-in, zoomedout, and shifted. The Adobe Reader toolbar was available for diverse exploration of these surface models (Shin et al, 2012a).…”

“…The surface models, as well as the arranged plane images, were inputted into a PDF file. The authors employed the inputting method as previously developed and described (Shin et al, 2012a).…”

“…Unlike the paper book, the software had no burden of numerous images; the software conveniently browsed the neighboring images. While the anatomical structures were labeled in the book, the structures were segmented and color-coded in the software for automatic demonstration of the structure names (Shin et al, 2012).…”
