Accurate Volume Calculation Driven by Delaunay Triangulation for Coal Measurement

Abstract: Volume calculation from 3D point cloud is widely used in engineering and applications. The existing methods either have large errors or are time-consuming. This paper focuses on the coal measurement. Based on the triangular mesh generated from the point cloud, each triangle is projected downward to the base plane to form a voxel. We derive the calculation formula of voxel by an integral method, which is more efficient than the method of decomposing voxel into tetrahedrons and more accurate than slicing methods… Show more

“…Discussion of sliced height. Tables 8,9 and figure 16 show that the value of h is inversely proportional to the algorithm efficiency and directly proportional to the algorithm accuracy. However, in table 10, over-slicing resulted in a decrease in accuracy.…”

“…However, by incorporating the concept of voxelization, the algorithm proposed in this article utilizes unit pixel filling to obtain the area of the sliced object (figure 2(c)). For large-scale irregular data, such as the 3D point data of core [9], mineral and foodstuff, the correlation research is rare, and the proposed algorithms [9] have a poor robustness with different sampling densities.…”
