Achieving both high electromechanical properties and temperature stability in textured PMN‐PT ceramics

Abstract: Textured piezoelectric ceramics, such as textured Pb(Mg 1/3 Nb 2/3 )O 3 -PbTiO 3 (PMN-PT) ceramics, have attracted considerable attention from both academia and industry, as they possess crystal-like piezoelectric properties, high composition homogeneity, and low manufacturing cost. However, the main difficulty with the textured piezoelectric ceramics is the presence of BaTiO 3 (BT) templates, which greatly reduces their piezoelectricity and phase transition temperature. Thus, it is highly recommended to fabri… Show more

“…1 a), the bipolar strain remains in the same direction under a change of direction of the electric field, and its values on both sides are close to each other. This phenomenon of symmetric strain has been widely demonstrated in piezoelectric compounds, such as lead zirconate titanate 17 , barium titanate, bismuth ferrite, potassium sodium niobate 18 , Pb(Mg 1/3 Nb 2/3 )O 3 -PbTiO 3 (PMN-PT) 19 , 20 , Sr 0.35 Na 0.25 Bi 0.35 TiO 3 (SBNT) 21 , etc. When a considerable number of dopants are introduced in the Na 0.5 Bi 0.5 TiO 3 (BNT) lattice, a strain curve with asymmetric loops (Fig.…”

“…This notable enhancement can also be attributed to the [001] c grain orientation present in the textured samples. 30 As the temperature increases, the d 31 values of all ceramics exhibit a gradual rise, reaching their peak near a crucial temperature commonly known as the depolarization temperature ( T d ). The textured ceramics with 2BT attain their highest value of d 31 of ∼644 pC N −1 at around 372 °C, whereas the untextured ceramics with 0BT achieve their peak ( d 31 ∼ 513 pC N −1 ) at 402 °C.…”

“…[4] Among them, Pb(Mg 1/3 Nb 2/3 )O 3 -PbTiO 3 (PMN-PT) piezoelectric ceramics, which have excellent piezoelectric properties, are the focus of current research. [5][6][7] Recently, a large number of theoretical and experimental investigations have been carried out mostly on piezoelectric coefficients in order to expand the range of potential applications. To the best of our knowledge, there are two underlying mechanisms in theory that play important roles in determining the piezoelectric coefficient.…”
