Acupoint Application in Patients with Chronic Stable Angina Pectoris: Study Protocol of a Randomized, Double‐Blind, Controlled Trial

Abstract: Background. Chronic stable angina pectoris (CSAP) is a major syndrome of ischemic heart disease (IHD). CSAP manifests as chest pain or discomfort and affects patients' quality of life. Acupoint application (AP) has been reported to be effective for managing the symptoms of CSAP, but the evidence is not convincing. Therefore, we designed a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy of AP in the treatment of CSAP. Methods and Analysis. Two hundred participants with CSAP … Show more

“…Another natural product, Suxiao jiuxin pill (SJP), consists of two major components, tetramethylpyrazine (TMP) and borneol (BOR), and is a prominent traditional Chinese medicine used to treat acute ischemic heart disease [ 131 , 132 , 133 ]. SJP has significant effects on oxidative stress and vascular reactivity that may lead to improved blood flow.…”

“…[ 12 – 14 ] Increasing clinical researches reported that GLXBBX decoction has been widely used and of great benefit in improving for SAP patients; however, there has been no complete evaluation of the clinical evidence regarding GLXBBX decoction as intervention for SAP in evidence-based medicine. “…AP is related to myocardial ischemia by increasing myocardial oxygen demand and reducing diastolic perfusion time, and more than half of the patients with coronary heart disease were suffering from AP (Fihn et al, 2014;Liu, Du, Cong, Jia, & Yang, 2016). Although conventional pharmacotherapy has been widely applied, a substantial proportion of patients still fail to relieve angina-related symptoms completely (Ren et al, 2014;Wee, Burns, & Bett, 2015). Accumulating evidence indicates that dyslipidemia is correlated with atherosclerotic plaque, playing a dominant role in the occurrence and progression of AP.…”
