Acylindrical actions on trees and the Farrell–Jones conjecture

Abstract: We show that for groups acting acylindrically on simplicial trees the K-and L-theoretic Farrell-Jones Conjecture relative to the family of subgroups consisting of virtually cyclic subgroups and all subconjugates of vertex stabilisers holds. As an application, for amalgamated free products acting acylindrically on their Bass-Serre trees we obtain an identification of the associated Waldhausen Nil-groups with a direct sum of Nil-groups associated to certain virtually cyclic groups. This identification generalize… Show more

“…To obtain further examples of finitely F -amenable actions on Euclidean retracts, it is helpful to replace VCyc with a larger family of subgroups F . Groups that act acylindrically hyperbolic on a tree admit finitely F -amenable actions on Euclidean retracts where F is the family of subgroups that is generated by the virtually cyclic subgroups and the isotropy groups for the original action on the tree [50]. Relative hyperbolic groups and mapping class groups are discussed in Section 4.…”

“…Geometric Axiomatization of FJC. We first recall a regularity condition that has been useful in recent results on the Farrell-Jones conjecture [BLR08b,Bar17,Kno17]. Let X be a space on which G acts by homeomorphisms and F be a family of subgroups of G. An open subset U ⊆ X is said to be an F-subset if there is…”
