Adaptive Video with SCReAM over LTE for Remote‐Operated Working Machines

Abstract: Remote operation is a step toward the automation of mobile working machines. Safe and efficient teleremote operation requires good-quality video feedback. Varying radio conditions make it desirable to adapt the video sending rate of cameras to make the best use of the wireless capacity. The adaptation should be able to prioritize camera feeds in different directions depending on motion, ongoing tasks, and safety concerns. Self-Clocked Rate Adaptation for Multimedia (SCReAM) provides a rate adaptation algorithm… Show more

“…SCReAM adopts a self-clocking principle, i.e., it uses a feedback-based reactive congestion window to minimize the round-trip-time (RTT) without compromising link utilization/throughput. The self-clocking in SCReAM enables channel jitter-aware congestion control in wireless scenarios, introduced by, e.g., radio resource scheduling in dynamic radio conditions [38]. Using reasonable congestioncontrol algorithms, it measures the achievable data rate for a given network configuration and environment.…”

“…Other rate control methods, such as look-ahead approaches [9,10] enable variable allocation of a constant total bitrate for multiple videos. In the field of teleoperation, the work presented in [11] performs variable bitrate allocation for a multi-camera system at varying radio conditions. This is related to some of the objectives in this paper.…”
