Addition‐cured silicone adhesive technology: Vinyl silicone crosslinker

Abstract: SYNOPSISSilicone pressure-sensitive adhesives prepared from a platinum-catalyzed, high solids silicone composition are described. The adhesive compositions consist of an MQ siloxane resin, vinyl-and hydride-terminated silicone fluids, and a multifunctional vinyl silicone crosslinker. In this study, multifunctional vinyl silicone crosslinkers of various structures, including linear polymers, T, TQ, and Q resins, were prepared and evaluated for their effect on the adhesive properties of cured silicone pressure-s… Show more

“…The silicone materials studied here are primarily composed of a network of SiO backbone chains and surface functionalized silicates covalently crosslinked with a multifunctional oligomer. The crosslinking reaction involves the hydrosilylation addition reaction of a Sivinyl with a SiH function group via a Pt mediated catalytic reaction . A schematic of each reactant component during the polymerization is shown in Figure .…”

“…Although a detailed characterization of the silicate filler structure is a complicated endeavor, three‐dimensional representations of the highly‐branched filler structure have been attempted . From a practical perspective, a shorthand nomenclature describing the connectivity of the SiO linkage is often implemented instead . The letters, M , D , T , and Q are used to illustrate the bonding of a single Si with one, two, three, or four oxygen atoms, respectively.…”

“…The wide range of applications include tapes, labels, decals, medical products, and others . Silicone pressure‐sensitive adhesives have traditionally been made by compounding a resinous silicone resin of M unit (monofunctional silane) and Q unit (tetrafunctional silane) with a high molecular weight polydimethylsiloxane gum at a selected resin‐to‐gum ratio . Silicone resin has a low molecular weight .…”
