Abstract:I n our recently published article on solubility, we discussed, in part, the primary role of entropy in the insolubility of nonpolar molecules in water. The following references relating to experimental observations and physical models for the hydrophobic effect and inadequacy of a simple "clathrate" model were brought to our attention after publication of our article, and we would like to share them with readers.
