Additive Manufacturing Enabled Supply Chain Management: A Review and Research Directions

Abstract: The emergence of additive manufacturing (AM) is expected to recon figure the traditional supply chain (SC) with more flexibility and agility, leading to opportunistic collaboration. The purpose of the work is to identify research dimensions based on AM-enabled supply chain management (SCM) taxonomy from the product, information and service flow point of view. This article uses a systematic literature review (SLR) on AM-enabled SCM. The literature from 116 peer-reviewed journal papers over 10 years (2010–2021) … Show more

“…It is considered difficult to choose the best polymer raw material based on online ratings alone. Therefore, it is considered a novelty to investigate a polymer raw material using the optimization MCDM method based on the experimental result for different manufacturers same filament [95][96][97].…”

“…There are four key areas in which additive manufacturing is having an impact on SCM: (1) the need for new types of materials; (2) the need for new types of equipment; (3) the need for new approaches to inventory management; and (4) the need for new approaches to quality control (Sonar et al, 2022).…”

“…AM requires further development from the supply chain and operations management viewpoints to facilitate a wider industrial reach. Recent studies developed conceptual frameworks or discussed the implications of AM adoption on supply chain and logistics using literature reviews and interviews (Rogers et al 2016;Braziotis et al 2019;Silva et al 2020;Sonar et al 2022). The relationship between various aspects of supply chain changes has not been investigated; such investigation helps understand the underpinning of AM adoption, which determines its suitability in various sectors and supply chains.…”
