Etiology-based classification of brain white matter hyperintensity on magnetic resonance imaging

Brain white matter lesions found upon magnetic resonance imaging are often observed in psychiatric or neurological patients. Individuals with these lesions present a more significant cognitive impairment when compared with individuals without them. We propose a computerized method to distinguish tissue containing white matter lesions of different etiologies (e.g., demyelinating or ischemic) using texture-based classifiers. Texture attributes were extracted from manually selected regions of interest and used to train and test supervised classifiers. Experiments were conducted to evaluate texture attribute discrimination and classifiers' performances. The most discriminating texture attributes were obtained from the gray-level histogram and from the co-occurrence matrix. The best classifier was the support vector machine, which achieved an accuracy of 87.9% in distinguishing lesions with different etiologies and an accuracy of 99.29% in distinguishing normal white matter from white matter lesions.

Usualmente los equipos de desarrollo tienen colaboradores localizados en diferentes lugares, hablando diferentes lenguajes e incluso con diferentes culturas. Es necesario conocer sobre aquellas herramientas que pueden ayudar a los desarrolladores en las diferentes etapas del proceso de creación de software, y especialmente en la etapa de codificación. Este artículo muestra los nuevos enfoques que tiene el desarrollo de software colaborativo, su relevancia, y revisa un conjunto de herramientas que incluyen, aquellas creadas como extensiones y aquellas que se usan sobre la web. Se presenta sus características principales y una comparación, ante posibles nuevas implementaciones o para decidir cuál utilizar.

There is a continual growth in the use of social computing within a breadth of business domains; such as marketing, public engagement and innovation management. Software engineering research, like other similar disciplines, has recently started to harness the power of social computing throughout the various development phases; from requirements elicitation to validation and maintenance and for the various methods of development and structures of development teams. However, despite this increasing effort, we still lack a clear picture of the current status of this research. To address that lack of knowledge, we conduct a systematic mapping study on the utilisation of social computing for software engineering. This will inform researchers and practitioners about the current status and progress of the field including the areas of current focus and the geographical and chronological distribution of the research. We do the mapping across a diversity of dimensions including the activities of software engineering, the types of research, the characteristics of social computing and the demographic attributes of the published work. Our study results show a growing interest in the field, mainly in academia, and a general trend toward developing designated social computing platforms and utilising them in mainly four software engineering areas; management, coding, requirements engineering, and maintenance and enhancement.
