Pandemics cause chaotic situations in supply chains (SC) around the globe, which can lead towards survivability challenges. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented humanitarian crisis that has severely affected global business dynamics. Similar vulnerabilities have been caused by other outbreaks in the past. In these terms, prevention strategies against propagating disruption require vigilant goal conceptualization and roadmaps. In this respect, there is a need to explore supply chain operation management strategies to overcome the challenges that emerge due to COVID-19-like situations. Therefore, this review aimed at exploring these challenges and developing strategies for sustainability, and viability perspectives for SCs, through a structured literature review (SLR) approach. Moreover, this study investigated the impacts of previous epidemic outbreaks on SCs through a literature review, to identify the research objectives, methodological approaches, and implications for SCs. The study also explored the impact of epidemic outbreaks on the business environment, in terms of effective resource allocation, supply and demand disruptions, and transportation network optimization, through operations management techniques. Furthermore, this article structured a framework that emphasizes the integration of industry 4.0 technologies, resilience strategies, and sustainability to overcome SC challenges during pandemics. Finally, future research avenues were identified by including a research agenda for experts and practitioners to develop new pathways to get out of the crisis.

No cenário empresarial tem sido cada vez mais comum o emprego de inovações tecnológicas avançadas, mediante o surgimento do conceito de Indústria 4.0, que vem propiciando a otimização dos recursos e elevando a produtividade no setor fabril. Neste contexto, tem-se a Realidade Aumentada, tecnologia habilitadora que utiliza a visualização computacional e o processamento das imagens e das técnicas de computação gráfica. Este estudo teve o objetivo de verificar o estado da arte das aplicações da Realidade Aumentada na Indústria 4.0 por meio de uma revisão sistemática da literatura. Para atingir o objetivo proposto foi desenvolvida uma revisão sistemática da literatura utilizando a base de dados SCOPUS, considerando-se os estudos publicados no período de 2015 a 2020. A Realidade Aumentada é utilizada para aumentar o mundo real por meio de informações digitais, fornecendo uma interação em tempo real com os objetos reais e virtuais. Os resultados da revisão sistemática da literatura indicaram que a Realidade Aumentada se faz presente em várias aplicações na manufatura, incluindo: a criação de manuais virtuais de manutenção; visualização das instruções de trabalho e design de produto; desenvolvimento de modelagens e simulações, com a finalidade de aprimorar continuamente as atividades no setor fabril; para facilitar as atividades dos operadores nos processos fabris e de manutenção; e para auxiliar nas atividades apoiadoras desses processos. Engineering education in particular involves laboratory equipment and apparatus which requires safety procedures and substantial financial cost. Recent pandemic has also affected engineering education teaching and learning processes as all the classes and laboratory sessions need to be conducted via online distance learning (ODL) method. Therefore, this research selects Augmented Reality (AR) Method for innovative teaching and learning process. AR is known for its ability to overlay rich media into the real world by viewing through web-enabled devices such as phones and tablets, making it accessible anywhere anytime. In addition to improving interest and motivation of students during the learning process, AR could also address the financial and space constraints pertaining to science and technology laboratory equipment and apparatus. In this research, an AR has been developed according to system development method by using Assemblr application. The developed AR system is then given to selected educators to be evaluated in terms of their awareness and the system’s usability. The educators’ responses are obtained through a questionnaire survey and the findings are then analysed and presented in this paper. The responses are taken into account for improving the AR system and the development process will be continued in parallel with more testing.
