“…There are cases of patients with the clinic of a pheochromocytoma in which pathological examination clearly showed the histology of an adrenal adenoma (Ramsay et al, 1987;Unger et al, 1990), as well as cases of the exact opposite (Kowacs and Horvath, 1973;Le Compte, 1944;Mathison and Waterhouse, 1969). We also find descriptions of mixed tumours (Gordon et al, 1994;Robinson and Baker-Bates, 1954;Williams et al, 1960) and of cells with the characteristics of adrenal-medulla and adrenal-cortex cells .…”

“…However, the immunohistochemical characterization is suggestive of a neuroendocrine tumour. Although several cases of adrenal cortical tumours mimicking a phaeochromocytoma have been reported in the 1950s and 60s, missing clinical, biochemical and histological data renders the interpretation of the findings difficult (Burak et al, 1959;Robinson and Baker-Bates, 1954;Walters et al, 1962). Only one series (Alsabeh et al, 1995) describing 5 cases with phaeochromocytomas presenting as adrenal cortical tumour with preoperative laboratory data and immunohistochemical characterization of the tumour has been published.…”
