Adsorption Behavior of Congo Red onto Barium-Doped ZnO Nanoparticles: Correlation between Experimental Results and DFT Calculations

Abstract: Ba-loaded ZnO nanoparticles (Ba/ZnO) were obtained by the co-precipitation process and employed as a sorbent for Congo Red (C 32 H 22 N 6 Na 2 O 6 S 2 ) dye (CR). Physicochemical parameters such as particle size, pH, and contact time were checked to characterize the adsorption process. The maximum adsorption capacity of Ba/ZnO NPs for CR (1614.26 mg/g) proves its potential utility in the elimination of CR dye from wastewater. The adsorption mechanism was studied via infrared spectroscopy and density functional… Show more

“…Many studies prove that the solution pH value plays a crucial role in the adsorption process by modifying the surface charge of nanomaterials [ 23 , 37 ]. Therefore, the surface is positively charged at pH lower than pHZPC value and negatively charged at pH greater than pHZPC value.…”

“…It is not a cost-effective approach, photocatalysts leach into the water system, and it is ineffective in dark conditions [ 22 ]. The adsorption method is considered the most effective technology for removing dye pollutants from water due to its low cost, high efficiency, versatility, and ease of use [ 23 ]. The critical component of this approach is the development of high-performance adsorbents.…”

“…Our study clearly shows the biomolecule hyaluronic acid mediated silver nanoparticles size in the range of less than 50 nm and less cytotoxic effect confirmed by brine shrimp lethality assay. Based on the present study, the Titanium dioxide nanoparticles will be used for many biomedical applications in future [47].…”

“…The AC-Zn-CP electrode displays specific capacitances of 215, 193, 184, 180, and 164 F g −1 at current densities of 0.5, 1, 2, 5, and 10 A g −1 , greatly preceding all AC-n electrodes at corresponding current densities (Figure 5d and Table S1). Moreover, the supercapacitive performance of AC-Zn-CP is superior to plenty of advanced carbon electrodes, such as NPC-L, 24 carbon nanotube sponge, 25 PGBC, 26 P-doped CNT, 27 carbon-PANI, 28 and NPC. 29 The excellent capacitances of AC-Zn-CP are mainly associated with the notable specific surface area, which is correlated with the ion-storage on electrode surfaces, and the hierarchical pores are also beneficial to the transportation of ions.…”
