Adsorption of anionic dyes from an aqueous solution by banana peel and green coconut mesocarp

Abstract: C.M.B.M. Barbosa), marta.duarte@ufpe.br (M.M.M.B. Duarte) A B S T R A C TBanana peel (BP) and green coconut mesocarp (GCM) were evaluated as adsorbents for the removal of the dyes reactive gray BF-2R (RG), reactive turquoise Q-G125 and remazol golden yellow RNL-150% (RGY). Adsorbents were classified as mesoporous materials, with the pHzpc of 5 for BP and 7 for GCM. The initial pH of the best-adsorbing solution of the dyes was 2.0. There was no significant difference between the kinetic models evaluated by the … Show more

“…Nascimento et al. (2016) employed that green coconut mesocarp successfully adsorbed Remazol Golden Yellow RNL‐150% (RGY) 9.6 mg/g at 298 K, at optimum pH 2 for the adsorption process. Rahim and his coworkers discussed about the heavy metal remediation by the use of coconut waste and their modifications.…”

“…Rahim and his coworkers discussed about the heavy metal remediation by the use of coconut waste and their modifications. Green coconut mesocarp was used to adsorb Remazol Golden Yellow RNL−150% (RGY), anionic dye (Nascimento et al., 2016). Exhibit 11 provides quantitative information on the various heavy metals' capabilities for adsorption using various coconut sections as adsorbents (Siriweera & Jayathilake, 2020).…”

“…The present study deals with the fitting of the equilibrium data into some of the well-known isotherm models like Langmuir, 13 Freundlich, 13 Redlich-Peterson (R-P), 18 and Temkin. 19 These isotherm models in linear forms are used in the process of sorptive riddance of contaminant molecules. General formulation of the isotherm model in the linear form can be expressed following the Langmuir isotherm equation in this Equation (4):…”

“…Green coconut mesocarp is a young coconut shell which is not treated and was used to adsorp Remazol Golden Yellow RNL-150% (RGY), anionic dye by Nascimento et al (2016) [71]. The chemical structure of Remazol Golden Yellow RNL-150% (RGY) is shown in Figure A7, Supporting Information.…”
