Adsorption Properties of Tropical Soils from Awka North Anambra Nigeria for Lead and Cadmium Ions from Aqueous Media

Abstract: Soils consist of various components that can influence significantly heavy metal control in the environment. Understanding the adsorption characteristic of soil is important in combating pollution problems around farming areas. This work explored the sorption characteristics and retention of Pb and Cd by soils from Isu Aniocha farming area in Anambra state, Nigeria. The influence of temperature, metal concentration, pH and time on the sequestration of Pb 2+ and Cd 2+ was evaluated by batch sorption technique. … Show more

“…These properties made them stand out and surpass the adsorption of some of the conventional toxicant extractors, such as graphene, zeolites, and activated carbon . With the many possible compounds that calixarene-based polymers can bind, it became intriguing to apply them to remove substances such as organic micropollutants, textile dyes, heavy metals, herbicides, perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), and iodine …”

“…23 With the many possible compounds that calixarene-based polymers can bind, it became intriguing to apply them to remove substances such as organic micropollutants, textile dyes, heavy metals, herbicides, perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), and iodine. 24 In this Spotlight, we first describe the various synthetic methods and chemical reactions that have been used to generate porous main-chain CX-based polymers. We focus on Sonogashira−Hagihara coupling, and diazo and imine bond formations.…”

“…Medicinal plants can be contaminated by heavy metals such cadmium, chromium, copper, lead and zinc via root uptake or by direct deposition from the atmosphere onto plant surfaces. Consumption of medicinal plants with excessive accumulation of heavy metals may cause serious health problems such as disrupt the functions of vital organs, glands, kidney and liver, thereby, affecting biological function of these organs [14,15]. However, elements such as lead, cadmium, mercury and arsenic are non-essential and toxic even at low concentrations for humans [16].…”
