Adsorptive Removal of Selected Anionic and Cationic Dyes by Using Graphitic Carbon Material Prepared from Edible Sugar: A Study of Kinetics and Isotherms

Abstract: Graphitic carbon-like material (GCM) derived from edible sugar under a nitrogen environment was applied as an adsorbent for the removal of anionic and cationic dyes (methyl orange, MO) and methylene blue (MB) from wastewater. The physico-chemical characterization of GCM was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The plate-like morphology with an average size of 50-100 nm was measured f… Show more

“…However, because of its higher elimination effectiveness and lower operating temperature by utilizing affordable adsorbents, adsorption is the most efficient process for concurrently removing heavy metal ions and dyes. Heavy metal ion adsorption over nonmagnetic adsorbents like AC and alumina has received a lot of attention in recent years (Ahmadpour et al., 2010; Choi, et al., 2018; Lingamdinne, Choi, et al., 2018; Lingamdinne, Singh, et al., 2018; Rahmani et al., 2010; Zabihi et al., 2009; Zabihi et al., 2010). Recent studies have concentrated on supporting magnetic nanoparticles onto AC to increase the adsorption capability.…”

“…The Freundlich equilibrium isotherm is based on the multilayer and heterogeneous adsorption on the adsorbent. The linear form of this equation is expressed below: 37 (4) where, k F (mg/g(L/mg) 1/n ) and n are the Freundlich constants: 38 The Langmuir isotherm model assumes monolayer sorption on a surface containing a limited number of uniform energy adsorption sites. 36 This model also states that adsorption only occurs on homogeneous sites, without any action between the adsorbate and adsorbent molecules.…”
