Adsorptive Stripping Voltammetric Determination of Bupropion in Pharmaceuticals

Abstract: Electrochemical studies of bupropion by voltammetric techniques were carried out. The bupropion gave one well-defined reduction peak at -1.2 to -1.3V vs. Ag/AgCl electrode in Britton Robinson buffer BR of pH 9. Under optimized conditions, a linear response was obtained between 1.0x10 -6 M to 5.6x10 -6 M in aqueous media for square wave and differential pulse cathodic adsorptive stripping voltammetric techniques. The electrochemical process was diffusion controlled. The value of limit of detection (LOD) are 1.2… Show more

“…Although the pp-AN/SPCE sensor is less sensitive than mercury electrode [ 14 ], it is worth noting that these electrodes have already been withdrawn from the use due to the toxicity of mercury vapor. The GCE [ 15 ] shows similar analytical parameters in terms of BUP determination as the mass-produced pp-AN/SPCE, but it is expensive and cannot be adopted in complex measurement systems (e.g., flow-through) offered by Methrom. Admittedly, the use of EIS technique allows to obtain very low LOD [ 16 ]; however, it also requires expensive equipment and the ability to use specialized software as well as many years of experience in interpreting EIS spectra.…”

“…In other works, the recorded signal is related to the reduction of the carbonyl group present in the BUP molecule, which corresponds to the cathodic peak at potential ca. −1.2 V [ 15 ].…”
