Abstract:Curved masonry structures externally strengthened by Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) systems exhibits failure mechanisms that emphasize a local bond behavior particularly influenced by the curved geometry of the substrate and the position of the strengthening (i.e. at the intrados or extrados). Indeed, together with tangential stresses, normal stresses in tension or compression also arise by leading to a combined mode I–mode II behavior of strengthening system at the reinforcement/masonry interface level. scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
