A kind of traffic shaping scheme for Optical Packet Switched (OPS) networks is described in this paper. This scheme situated at optical packet ingress switches shapes external traffic based on a re-negotiated service model with rate prediction, allowing smoothed traffic to flow into optical core network. This simplifies the design of core optical switch and allows bursty Internet traffic to become more controllable. Our purpose are to push control and management burden from network core to the edge where powerful electronic manipulations are available, and to facilitate small and simple design of core optical switches. Simulation results are also provided to evaluate its performance.
