Advancing Research in Low- and Middle-Income Countries

Abstract

Advancing research in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) is crucial for global health equity but faces challenges like limited resources, lack of trained personnel, and infrastructural constraints. This chapter examines these limitations and proposes advancement strategies. It emphasizes building ethical, sustainable research programs in LMICs through strategic planning, goal prioritization, and dynamic strategic plans. The importance of collaboration and inclusive partnerships that value local expertise is highlighted. The chapter also discusses leveraging data to coordinate research efforts and maximize impact, suggesting that ongoing dialogue between institutions and key industry steakholders can potentially tailor costs thus providing efficient, precise, community based and patient focused care. In conclusion, it offers a comprehensive framework to address limitations and harness opportunities in advancing research in LMICs. A concerted global effort to strengthen research capacity is called for, ultimately contributing to improved global health outcomes and equity
