Adverse obstetrical outcomes for women with endometriosis and adenomyosis: A large cohort of the Japan Environment and Children’s Study

“…We identified 21 cohort studies regarding endometriosis and pre-eclampsia [ 24 , 26 , 27 , 28 , 29 , 31 , 32 , 37 , 38 , 39 , 40 , 41 , 42 , 43 , 50 , 52 , 54 , 55 , 56 , 61 , 62 ]. Ten of these were included in the main meta-analysis [ 24 , 27 , 28 , 32 , 37 , 38 , 39 , 40 , 56 , 62 ] ( Figure 4 ). Women with endometriosis showed to be at increased risk of pre-eclampsia (OR: 1.19, 95% CI: 1.08–1.31).…”

“…Functional and structural changes in the eutopic endometrium and inner myometrium are characteristic of endometriosis and adenomyosis, these changes having negative consequences for female fertility. Altered endometrial receptivity in patients with endometriosis and adenomyosis is also linked to some molecular events that are associated with the process of implantation and embryo development [ 91 ].…”

“…AM and EM both have adverse effects on fertility, making treatment more complicated. In addition to the impacts on reproductive performance (infertility and miscarriage) and pregnancy outcomes (preterm labor, fetal growth restriction, placenta previa and even uterine rupture) are also affected by AM [5,6] and EM [7].…”
