Summary
Gold nanoparticles were in situ synthesized via irradiation process, using PVA, (PVA:Cs), and (PVA:PAM) as host polymeric matrices. The effect of irradiation dose, polymer content, polymer combination AgNO3, chitosan, and poly acrylamide were studied. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have spherical nanoparticles shape with different size ranging from 10−35 nm, which were characterized by ultraviolet‐visible (UV‐VIS) spectroscopy, X‐ray spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) shows the spectral shift together with reduced intensity of the −OH stretching vibration upon incorporation of the Au nanoparticles indicating the coordination between Au nanoparticles and the OH groups originating from the PVA chains. The synthesized gold nanoparticles have been successfully applied as a catalyst in the degradation of methyl orange and methylene blue by NaBH4.
