Visible-Light Photocatalyic Performance. -An AgBi(WO 4)2-Bi2WO6 composite is prepared by hydrothermal reaction of an alkaline AgNO 3 solution (NH3-containing NaOH) to which a Bi2WO4 suspension is given (autoclave, 160 C, 20 h). The precursor Bi 2WO4 suspension is obtained from an alkaline mixture of Bi(NO3)3 and Na2WO4 adjusted to pH 11 with 0.1 M NaOH. The as-synthesized AgBi(WO 4)2-Bi2WO6 composite displays a by 43 times higher photocatalytic activity in methyl orange degradation than Bi 2WO6 which is attributed to the matched band gap, distinctive heterostructure, and the simultaneous photogeneration of electrons and holes. AgBi(WO 4)2 reveals a similar energy level to and good lattice match with Bi 2WO6 which result in optimum band bending and fluent electron transfer. Photoexcited electrons produce O 2 to generate radicals which is vital for the overall utilization of both holes and electrons. -(FENG, C.; DONG*, Y.; JIANG, P.; WANG, G.; ZHANG, J.; WU, X.; ZHANG, C.; Chem. -Asian J. 10 (2015) 9, 1948-1952, http://dx.
