Age and Gender Differences in Cytokine Profile of Lymph and Blood Serum

Abstract: We studied the cytokine profile (IL-1α, IL-1β, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, GM-CSF, interferon-γ, TNFα,) of the lymph, blood serum and conditioned medium of the lymph cells of Wistar rats. It was found that the concentration of cytokines investigated in the lymph of Wistar rats was significantly higher compared to the serum. Age and gender differences between the concentration of pro-and anti-inflammatory cytokines in the lymph and blood serum were found. The concentration of the cytokines was determined using the… Show more

“…Such results may propose that the age is not risk factor that affect the serum level of the TLR 2 ; however, attention must be reflected in understanding these results because the sample size in patients and controls may not allow a strong conclusion. In addition, age can be regarded as an effective factor when we have deal at age more than 60 years, because it is often there is immune functions dysregulation, and health decline and increased sensitivity to various infectious diseases are linked with ages advance [23], as well as the significant role of TLRs in immune response of host to TB at initial stage [24]. Unluckily, the patients and controls number in the present study at age older than 60 years could not permit a reliable statistical analysis, and therefore they were distributed into < 40 and ≥ 40 years.…”

“…Cells that are targets for the action of IL-2 are T-lymphocytes, natural killers (NK), and macrophages. IL-2 causes the functional activation of these cell types and the secretion of other cytokines, for example, increases the production of NK cells by interferon γ (IFN-γ) [9]. There are data about the production of nervous cells of IL-1, IL-6 and TNF-α, which are critical components in the development of chronic inflammation with destruction of β-cells of the pancreas in DM type 2 [10].…”
