“…The growth coefficient (K) of anchovies calculated in this study was 0.604, which falls within the category of medium growth according to the classification proposed by Sparre and Venema [55]. This relatively higher growth coefficient (K) value suggests that the maximum asymptotic length will be attained more quickly, a characteristic often observed in fish species with short life cycles [84]. Compared with previous studies (Table 3), our findings show a growth coefficient (K) value consistent with those reported previously.…”

“…This contrasts with McCarthy and Marriott's (2018) and Kutsyn et al .' s (2022) finding that the latitude decreases while the growth rate ( K ) increases. Relatively, a slight lower growth performance index ( ɸ′ ) of Lake Changhu in comparison to the Three Gorge Reservoir is likely related to its lower asymptotic length ( L ∞ ) (Table 3), which is highly affected by intensive fishing pressure (Basilone et al ., 2017; Samsun et al ., 2006; van Beveren et al ., 2014).…”

“…In this study, the K values of the male (0.206–0.209 year −1 ), female (0.34–0.36 year −1 ) and both (0.33 year −1 ) of C. brachygnathus from Lake Honghu were greater than 0.20, thus indicating that the fish is a rapid‐growing species. High values of the K coefficient revealed the rapid achievement of the maximum asymptotic length, which is typical for species with a short life cycle (Kutsyn et al ., 2022). The rapid growth of the C. brachygnathus population in Lake Honghu is affirmed by higher growth performance index ( ɸ′ ) values of 2.66, 2.41 and 2.58 for females, males and both, respectively, compared with most of the other lakes (Figure 7).…”
