Aggressiveness, Mating Behaviour and Lifespan of Group Housed Rabbit Does

Abstract: Simple SummaryAggressiveness is a well-known trait in different animal species, including the European wild and domesticated rabbit. It is one of the main problems in group housing of rabbit does. The aim of the experiment was to investigate the frequency of aggressiveness and mating behaviour as well as the lifespan of does depending on their rank order. Dominance hierarchy developed during aggressive behaviour, i.e., fighting. In most cases the primary position in the rank order was clear. Mating activity wa… Show more

“…As only three animals died during the experiment, we were not able to test the influence of rank on mortality, unlike in previous studies (Holst et al, 2002;Gerencsér et al, 2019), in which a higher survival rate was partially linked to a higher rank.…”

“…Regarding mature females, they can be kept together as long as they are siblings or they have been reared together from weaning 14,18 . If new groups with mature animals have to be done, ghting will occur during the establishment of the dominance relationships 22,27,28,35 . This intense activity, characterized by agonistic interactions, can take 2-3 days 29,35 .…”
