Aircraft Maintenance Planning Using Fuzzy Critical Path Analysis

Abstract: Aircraft's availability is certainly one of the most important features of modern avionic industry. The aircraft maintenance scheduling is one of the major decisions an airline has to make during its operation. When an aircraft maintenance event occurs, the overhaul tasks management process requires the execution of all tasks to perform and has to guarantee the on-time aircraft delivery and the respect of the daily flight schedule. Though maintenance scheduling comes as an end stage in an airline operation, it… Show more

“…During a jet engine's lifetime, various mandatory aircraft maintenance checks are implemented by airlines [26]. These maintenance checks are classified as A-check (every 3-4 months), B-check (every 6-8 months), C-check (every 1.5-2 years), and D-check (every 6-10 years).…”

“…Moreover, the air taxi maintenance and labor cost are anticipated to constitute about 22% of the VTOL direct operating costs (Holden and Goel, 2016). Due to these significant attributes, fleet maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) is considered as one of the key decisions for efficient aviation services (Papakostas et al, 2010;Atli and Kahraman, 2012;Liu et al, 2019). In addition, these periodic maintenance would have to be conducted on a large fleet of vehicles, especially when the air taxi market matures.…”

“…However, In 1960, poor connection capability has been reported as the main limiting factor 15 for achieving better runway alignments. Nowadays, heuristic studies such as Genetic Algorithm (GA) and fuzzy systems have proven to be extremely helpful in solving and finding optimum points in some aspects of the ATC problem 16,17 . The GA based algorithms usually differ in two aspects.…”
