Akt: A Potential Drug Target for Metabolic Syndrome

Abstract: The serine/threonine kinase Akt, also known as protein kinase B (PKB), is one of the key factors regulating glucose and lipid energy metabolism, and is the core focus of current research on diabetes and metabolic diseases. Akt is mostly expressed in key metabolism-related organs and it is activated in response to various stimuli, including cell stress, cell movement, and various hormones and drugs that affect cell metabolism. Genetic and pharmacological studies have shown that Akt is necessary to maintain the … Show more

“…The interacting protein 2 of DpAP2 with protein serine/ threonine kinase activity was also identified. The serine/threonine kinase Akt is a key factor regulating glucose and lipid energy metabolism, which is activated in response to various stimuli such as cell stress and various hormones and drugs (Miao et al, 2022). The eukaryotic-like serine/threonine protein kinases play important roles in cell growth and signal transduction in Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Burastero et al, 2022).…”

“…Moreover, AKT is from the main factors governing lipid and glucose metabolism and it is the main focus of contemporary research studying diabetes and metabolic illnesses. It is primarily found in major organs involved in metabolism and is triggered by a variety of stimuli, such as cell movement, cell stress, and numerous medications and hormones which alter the metabolism of the cells (Miao et al, 2022). Furthermore, GSK3 was recognized by scientists as an essential therapeutic target for the treatment of diabetes.…”

“…The AKT2 isoform is characteristic for insulin-sensitive tissues, such as muscle, adipose and hepatic tissues. The third isoform AKT3 is expressed in the nervous system [28] also in the adult pancreas, heart, and kidney [29], while AKT1 appeared ubiquitously expressed [28].…”
