“…Studies failed to identify a relationship with drinking and AMH levels 15 or antral follicle count (AFC) in predominantly Caucasian cohorts 16 but suggest worse ovarian reserve testing among black South African women 17 and Japanese women 18 who drink. Disparate results may be attributable to racial differences in AMH 19 , cultural differences in alcohol consumption not reflected by the exposure variables ascertained, or methodological differences in characterizing the exposure.…”

“…In that study, Li et al 17 showed that the amount of alcohol consumed was negatively associated with ovarian volume among 36 Chinese women between the ages of 18 and 29 years. In the study by Li et al, 17 the sample was recruited specifically based on alcohol consumption; half had moderate alcohol consumption, defined as daily alcohol consumption of more than 15 g, but less than 55 g; alcohol consumption of least 2 days a week, but no more than 5 days a week; and consumption of alcohol for at least 3 years, but not longer than 5 years.…”

The difference in the amount of alcohol consumption at the higher levels between the study by Li et al 17 and the present study, as well as the age difference in study populations, may explain the discrepancy in the findings between alcohol consumption and ovarian volume. It may be that only very high levels of alcohol intake reduce ovarian volume and, thus, reproductive function.…”

“…Li i wsp. udokumentowali, iż uzasadnione jest przekonanie, że zaburzenia miesiączko-wania i obniżona rezerwa jajnikowa, spowodowane umiarkowanym spożyciem alkoholu, mogą skutkować niskim poziomem płodności, a nawet przedwczesną niewydolnością jajnikową i menopauzą [37].…”
