Algal species dynamics in North Arabian Sea using long term ocean colour satellite data

Abstract: North Arabian Sea experiences massive proliferation of variable algal species. The study presents variability of Noctiluca and its association with hydrographic parameters such as sea surface temperature (SST) and water column stability using ten years of satellite data. The area was categorized into three regions, North (23 to 26 0 N & 56 to 70 0 E), West (18 to 23 0 N & 56 to 62 0 E) and East (18 to 23 0 N & 62 to 74 0 E). The Noctiluca dominated area was extracted following approach of Dwivedi et. al. (2015… Show more

“…Different nutrients, such as nitrate, silicate, and phosphate often control plankton bloom (Yin et al, 2000;Joseph et al, 2008). Due to mixing of shallow convection, nutrient entrainment, and upwelling processes, several occurrence and manifestation of Noctiluca scintillans blooms have been reported in the AS and BoB (Sarma et al, 2019;Baliarsingh et al, 2016;Mohanty et al, 2016 ). It was notorious for the conspicuous colour change on the seawater's surface caused by the algal cells density and abundance.…”
