All-solid-state hybrid solar cells based on a new organometal halide perovskite sensitizer and one-dimensional TiO2 nanowire arrays

Abstract: A novel organometal halide perovskite (CH3NH3PbI2Br) is synthesized and used as a visible light absorber to sensitize one-dimensional (1D) TiO2 nanowire arrays (NWAs) for all-solid-state hybrid solar cells. It achieved a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 4.87% and an open circuit voltage (Voc) of 0.82 V, both higher than those of its analogue CH3NH3PbI3.

“…From the intersections of dotted lines, the bandgaps of the layers were determined, and are summarized in Table 3. The bandgaps were close to those of previous reports ranging from 1.57 to 1.63 eV 4), 25) and from 2.2 to 2.8 eV 15)18) for CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 and BiFeO 3 , respectively. The E g values of these layers in both devices were almost same.…”

“…2. The diffraction peaks at 22.5, 31.9 and 32.0°corresponded to those of BiFeO 3 , indicating that the BiFeO 3 was polycrystalline with a rhombohedral structure (space group R 3c) The BiFeO 3 was singlephase since the XRD patterns showed no impurity phase such as Bi 2 Fe 4 O 9 and Bi 25 FeO 39 . The diffraction peaks of the CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 layers were observed regardless of different preparation steps, and can be indexed by a cubic crystal system.…”

“…Tauc plots are commonly misused to determine the bandgap from the optical absorption spectra of MAPbI 3 samples that violate the multiple assumptions made in the original work on amorphous Si and Ge. 179,180 These include diffuse light scattering on large sample grains, 181,182 excitonic effects, 175 sub-bandgap defect states and other effects that make the fitting of a tangent to the onset of absorption ambiguous. High quality optical measurements, 183 or at least semi-logarithmic data visualization are important to achieve best practice for experimental bandgap determination.…”

“…ybrid organic-inorganic all-solid-state solar cells based on methylammonium lead halide perovskite absorbers are currently attracting increasing interest because of their ease of fabrication and performances rivalling the best thin-film photovoltaic devices [1][2][3][4][5][6][7] . Of the various types of perovskites and morphologies reported to date, CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 deposited on a mesoporous film of titanium dioxide through a sequential deposition method appears to yield the best certified conversion efficiency 1 .…”
