“…Therefore, learning should be considered in the design process, or in particular, in the task assignment to stations/workers (Thongsanit et al 2010). The balancing problem of assembly lines of small batches, when learning effects are considered, has been studied by Karni and Herer (1995), Thongsanit et al (2010), and Cohen et al (2006). Karni and Herer (1995) claim that in addition to the learning effects, assembly lines of small batches are highly affected by "end effect": due to the tasks sequence through the stations, at the beginning some stations are idle, and so happen at the end.…”

“…The balancing problem of assembly lines of small batches, when learning effects are considered, has been studied by Karni and Herer (1995), Thongsanit et al (2010), and Cohen et al (2006). Karni and Herer (1995) claim that in addition to the learning effects, assembly lines of small batches are highly affected by "end effect": due to the tasks sequence through the stations, at the beginning some stations are idle, and so happen at the end. Learning significantly affects assembly lines also in the case of high labor turnover; new and inexperienced workers replace experienced workers, and as a result, throughput rate is reduced until the new workers acquire the necessary skills and experience (Armbruster et al 2007, Montano et al 2007, Villabolos et al 2011).…”

“…Each model is produced in batches on the same assembly line, and there may be one or more models in one production batch. 6,7 Although the mixed-model assembly lines can also produce multiple products, the different products are being produced separately rather than in batches. This article solves batch-model line balancing problem with real application.…”
