Abstract: Phosphatidylinositol (PI) is an essential phospholipid and critical component of membrane bilayers. The complete deacylation of PI by phospholipases of the B-type leads to the production of intracellular and extracellular glycerophosphoinositol (GPI), a water-soluble glycerophosphodiester.
