“…The Italian Movement Disorders Association recommended alprazolam as second-line therapy [ 44 ], and the MDS Task Force on Tremor considered this drug as efficacious [ 13 ]. In contrast, the evidence-based guidelines for the treatment of ET by the American Academy of Neurology [ 43 ], and a systematic review of the literature [ 146 ] concluded that the evidence is not sufficient to support or refute the use of alprazolam in the treatment of ET. Recommended doses of alprazolam blockers are given in Table 5 .…”

This is in line with a previous study showing that zotepine, quetiapine and olanzapine had the highest rates of laxative use in SGA, followed by clozapine, 9 and levomepromazine maleate was associated with severe constipation.…”

“…First line of treatment for ET is pharmacological although even well-established treatments can be ineffective in 25–55% of patients and are often associated with serious adverse events in a large percentage of patients ( 9 ). Pharmacological agents can lose their efficacy over the course of long-term therapy and in cases where the condition is medically refractory, neurosurgery such as radiofrequency (RF) ablation thalamotomy and deep brain stimulation (DBS) is considered.…”
