Alterations of epithelial layer after ischemic preconditioning of small intestine in rats

Abstract: Ischemic-reperfusion (IR) injury of the small intestine makes a serious complications associated with various surgical procedures and is related to changes in motility, secretory activity and structural alterations. Preconditioning can reduce range of this damage. The aim of the experimental study was to determine the influence of ischemic preconditioning (IPC) on IR injury on jejunal epithelial layer. Wistar rats (n = 56) were divided in two experimental groups. IR group was subjected to 60 min ischemia of cr… Show more

“…In these cases ischemic damage lead to the formation of more tissue damage. 16,18,20 Therefore, in order to avoid I/R damage the use of antioxidant pharmacological agents may be useful during or before reperfusion. 20 In studies Dexmedetomidine has been shown to be useful in intestinal, testicular, kidney, lung and cardiac I/R injury.…”

“…This increasing oxygen reacts with hypoxanthine and xanthine oxidase in ischemic tissue and finally, FOR formation, which causes tissue damage, is triggered [21]. Increasing FOR production causes a greater increase in damage in ischemic tissue by raising the peroxidation of cell membranes and mitochondrial lipids [3].…”

“…Mesenteric ischemia causes a hypoxic cell degeneration process in intestinal epithelial cells (23). This process disrupts the mucosal barrier and allows the entry of digestive enzymes into the intestinal wall, leading to autodigestion of the intestinal structure (24).…”

“…In our study, the experimental models of the short-term ischemia group and the prolonged ischemia group are different. However, the expected effect of the short ischemia is similar because the short time ischemia (15 min) causes slight intestinal injury that is not altered but is worsened insignificantly by reperfusion (2325). This slight intestinal damage is sufficient for our comparison.…”
