Alternative feed ingredients in the finisher diets for sustainable broiler production

Abstract: The main objective of this study was to evaluate the utilization of alternative protein feed ingredients including sunflower meal (SFM), corn gluten meal (CGM), and dried distillers’ grains with solubles (DDGS) as a mixture in a partial replacement of soybean meal (SBM) in broiler finisher diets with different protein levels and also to evaluate their effect on birds’ performance, environmental aspects of litter, cecal microbes, and economic prospects. A total of 576 (19 days old) Cobb 500 broiler chicks were … Show more

“…These results were consistent with the greater expression of the in ammatory cytokines IL-6, IL-8, and TNF-α observed in the gut mucosa in the Salmonella-infected groups. Therefore, the increased abundance of potential pathogens in Salmonella-infected broilers was considered the causal mechanism for the observed gut in ammation and deteriorated physiological conditions 13,31 .…”

“…Feed cost accounts for about 65-75% of poultry production, so there have been many attempts to lower feed cost. One of these attempts was to replace expensive feedstuffs with cheaper, more abundant by-products (El-Deek et al, 2020). Soybean meal is a major protein source used in broiler feed worldwide and is a frequently used raw material because of its high crude protein and amino acid contents (Hejdysz et al, 2019).…”
