Altertoxins with Quorum Sensing Inhibitory Activities from The Marine-Derived Fungus Cladosporium sp. KFD33

Abstract: Five new perylenequinone derivatives, altertoxins VIII–XII (1–5), as well as one known compound cladosporol I (6), were isolated from the fermentation broth of the marine-derived fungus Cladosporium sp. KFD33 from a blood cockle from Haikou Bay, China. Their structures were determined based on spectroscopic methods and ECD spectra analysis along with quantum ECD calculations. Compounds 1–6 exhibited quorum sensing inhibitory activities against Chromobacterium violaceum CV026 with MIC values of 30, 30, 20, 30, … Show more

“…KFD33 (Figure 19). They exhibited quorum sensing inhibitory potential towards C. violaceum CV026 with MICs ranging from 20 to 30 µg/well in the well diffusion assay [85]. Structurally, these metabolites related to altertoxins I-III previously were reported from Alternaria alternata [147].…”

“…Cladosporium sp. KFD33 isolated from blood cockle collected from Haikou Bay produced 150 and 153 that exhibited quorum sensing inhibitory potential towards Chromobacterium violaceum CV026 (MICs 30 and 20 µg/well, respectively) in the well diffusion assay [85]. Nevertheless, 156 had no observable cytotoxic activity towards SF-268, NCI-H460, MCF-7, and HepG-2 (conc.…”

“…Moreover, four new perylenquinones, altertoxins VIII-XI ( 145 – 148 ), were isolated from the fermentation broth of a marine-derived strain of Cladosporium sp. [ 87 ]. These new metabolites partially share structures with a series of metabolites originally isolated from the Alternaria species [ 122 ].…”

“…The genus Cladosporium (Cladosporiaceae) is one of the largest genera of dematiaceous hyphomycetes ( Bensch et al, 2015 ). Many novel bioactive natural products were isolated from Cladosporium fungus, such as polyketides ( Zhang et al, 2019 ; Zhu et al, 2018 ), macrolides ( Huang et al, 2019 ), perylenequinones ( Zhang et al, 2020 ), and indole alkaloids ( Peng et al, 2013 ), which exhibited antimicrobial ( Zhang et al, 2019 ), cytotoxic ( Zhu et al, 2018 ), antiviral ( Peng et al, 2013 ), and quorum-sensing inhibitory activities ( Zhang et al, 2020 ).…”
