“…These pores are larger than in crystalline zeolites, and MCM-41 materials possess new features for applications in catalysis, separation, and purification. This mesostructured silica is prospective in larger molecule processing in catalytic cracking and hydrocracking, but its commercial application is limited by the low-temperature and steaming stabilities.…”

“…There has been a considerable rise in the demand for heavy oil feedstock for refinery aimed at manufacturing gasoline with low sulphur which is attributed to the stringent environmental promulgations in respect to fossil fuels [50]. The reinforcement of efficient hydrodesulphurization (HDS) catalysts has been steered by the requisite of manufacturing ultra-clean fuels for protecting the environment [51].…”

“…The only known support utilized in industrial HDS catalysts is γ-Al 2 O 3 . Various studies have been intensified on many other supports such as SiO 2 , carbon oxides, and mixed oxides, while the promising materials being mesoporous silica oxides which are used as support possessed an ordered mesoporous framework [50]. Alumina-based supports have proven to be the common supports for the hydrotreatment (i.e., hydrodesulphurization) of petroleum [91], as heterogeneous catalysts as well as sorbents for huge molecules [78].…”

“…In addition to the complete characterization of the feedstock, it is essential to characterize and evaluate the catalysts to be used in the process. FCC catalysts are compounds, with Y zeolite being their most important component (15–40 wt %), which is deposited on an active or inert matrix together with specific additives that depend on many operation and commercial target issues. , Considering the specific process conditions and the nature of the feedstock, the catalyst should meet a number of requirements, such as thermal and hydrothermal resistance, tolerance toward metal poisoning (especially, Ni and V), appropriated coke yield, and low resistance to intraparticle mass transfer, in order to achieve the desired performance. Thus, tailor-made catalysts are formulated for the FCC process.…”
