Amino- and ionic liquid-functionalised nanocrystalline ZnO via silane anchoring – an antimicrobial synergy

Abstract: The synthesis of highly antimicrobial nanocrystalline zinc oxide and its covalent modifications is presented. In order to achieve further improvement of antimicrobial activity, surface of ZnO was effectively modified with selected silanes comprising amino-and ionic liquidfunctionalities. We demonstrate for the first time ionic liquid surface immobilization on ZnO and application of this hybrid material for antimicrobial purposes. Different microscopic and spectroscopic techniques as well as size, surface and e… Show more

“…solutions with and without antibiotic agents are important for the evaluation of behaviour of the bacterial growth. [30][31][32] With an increase in the value of optical density for the solution containing organisms, the amounts of organisms in the solution increase while the decrease in the value of optical density, the growth of organisms in the solution are reduced. Fig.…”

“…In recent years, the synthesis and immobilization of nanoparticles in ionic liquids (ILs) have been widely investigated. [16][17][18][19][20][21][22] ILs can be considered as valuable key precursor compounds for catalysts. [23][24][25][26] The nature of cation-anion interactions in ILs under ambient temperature is an issue of increasing interest.…”

“…Despite these diverse ways, there remains adequate purpose to offer a new way for an efficient, high‐yielding, and mild approach to achieve such systems. In recent years, the synthesis and immobilization of nanoparticles in ionic liquids (ILs) have been widely investigated . ILs can be considered as valuable key precursor compounds for catalysts .…”

“…These problems can be reduced by immobilization of ILs onto solid supports to produce heterogeneous catalysts. [27,28] Herein, we report the preparation of new chromenes by the multicomponent reaction of aldehydes, 4-hydroxycoumarin and 2-hydroxynaphthalene-1,4-dione in the presence of an IL supported on Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles in ethanol-water at 50°C (Scheme 1).…”
