The development of a highly selective electrocatalytic nitrogen reduction ammonia catalyst is an attractive and challenging task. In this letter, we reported the construction of a CoS2–CeO2 load on Ti mesh (CoS2–CeO2/Ti) based on interface engineering, which can be used as a highly efficient electrocatalytic nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR) catalyst under environmental conditions. According to density functional theory (DFT) calculations, N2 can be activated by the low-coordinated Co atom of the CoS2(110) surface, and the construction of a CoS2/CeO2 interface can effectively provide the necessary H+ for NRR, realizing the improvement of catalytic activity. In 0.1 M Na2SO4, CoS2–CeO2/Ti achieved a considerable average NH3 yield rate of 3.33 × 10–10 mol s–1 cm–2 and Faraday efficiency (FE) of 2.52% at −0.5 V vs RHE. Therefore, its performance is better than that of many known NRR electrocatalysts.

Strontium chloride (SrCl 2 ) as ammonia (NH 3 ) carriers has been widely exploited due to its high ammonia uptake capacity and low energy penalty for ammonia release. However, the dramatic volume swing during absorption-desorption cycles, from SrCl 2 to Sr(NH 3 ) 8 Cl 2 to SrCl 2 , imposes a challenge to structure SrCl 2 for ammonia storage applications. Herein, a novel porous SrCl 2 structure with SrCl 2 loading up to 96 wt%, scaffolded by reduced graphene oxide (rGO) networks is reported. The optimized porous SrCl 2 -rGO composite with 80 wt% SrCl 2 loading maintains the macro-and micro-structure accommodating the volume swing during ammonia absorption-desorption cycles without disintegration, whereas structured SrCl 2 pellets disintegrates directly after the first cycle of NH 3 absorption. The structured porous 80 wt% SrCl 2 -rGO composite demonstrates rapid absorption-desorption kinetics, 140% faster in absorption and 540% faster in desorption compared with pure SrCl 2 pellet. The enhancement of the surface area and the presence of SrCl 2 particles in the pores of rGO networks result in a robust and stable structure offering rapid ammonia absorption-desorption kinetics while countermining the volume swing by self-adjusting "breathing."

It is highly important to develop efficient and cheap photocatalysts for hydrogen production. Herein, a series of p–n heterojunction Mn 0.5 Cd 0.5 S/CuCo 2 S 4 has been successfully synthesized for the first time by the hydrothermal impregnation method. Mn 0.5 Cd 0.5 S/CuCo 2 S 4 loading with 12 wt % CuCo 2 S 4 shows the highest H 2 evolution rate of 15.74 mmol h –1 g –1 under visible light (λ ≥ 420 nm) irradiation, which is about 3.15 and 15.28 times higher than that of bare Mn 0.5 Cd 0.5 S (4.99 mmol h –1 g –1 ) and CuCo 2 S 4 (1.03 mmol h –1 g –1 ), respectively. In addition, it shows a relatively good stability during the five recycle tests, with about 20% loss of reaction rate compared to that of the first cycle. The superior photocatalytic performance is attributed to the effective separation and transfer of photogenerated charge carriers because of the formation of the p–n junction. The samples are systematically characterized by X-ray diffraction, ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis), diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution TEM, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, photoluminescence, EIS, and so on. UV–vis and EIS show that CuCo 2 S 4 can effectively improve the visible light response of Mn 0.5 Cd 0.5 S/CuCo 2 S 4 and promote the electron transfer from CuCo 2 S 4 to the conduction band of Mn 0.5 Cd 0.5 S, so as to improve the photocatalytic efficiency. This study reveals that the p–n heterojunction Mn 0.5 Cd 0.5 S/CuCo 2 S 4 is a promising photocatalyst to explore the photocatalysts without noble metals.
