“…differs from A. stacyi because the vitelline follicles begin at the level of the caecal bifurcation and they are smaller than those in A. stacyi . Also, in present specimens the caeca are asymmetric, whereas in A. stacyi they are symmetric (Werneck and Greiner, 2018).…”

“…Taxonomic keys and specific literature were used for morphological identification and morphometric comparisons, respectively (Price, 1934; Oguro, 1938; Simha and Chattopadhyaya, 1970, 1978; Fischthal and Acholonu, 1976; Gupta and Mehrotra, 1981; Platt, 2002; Werneck and Greiner, 2018). Specimens here found were determined by comparison with available voucher specimens collected by one of the authors of this manuscript (M. Werneck).…”

“…Several species of sea turtles have been affected in various ocean basins. Severe fluke lesions have been reported in Florida (13,14), Hawaii (15), Costa Rica (16,17), Brazil (18,19), and Italy (12,20), with Australia experiencing the highest prevalence and greatest mortality rates (21)(22)(23). This study reports the first case of Learedius learedi infection associated with bilateral blindness in a green sea turtle of the Northern Red Sea.…”

“…All known transmission routes of Neorickettsia species in mammals are by secondary ingestion of infected digenean trematodes. A large variety of trematode parasites have been reported to infect different species of sea turtles in the Atlantic Ocean, including Kemp's ridley turtles and green turtles (Cribb et al, 2016;Innis et al, 2009;Jerdy et al, 2016;Stacy et al, 2017;Werneck & Greiner, 2018). It is likely that one of these trematode species is the vector of Candidatus N. cheloniidis.…”
